We are proud to present the 2018 teachers line-up:
Mel and Jo are dance enthusiasts who have been dedicating their time and efforts to encouraging Balboa in the United Kingdom.
Being familiar with lindy hop and blues, their current love is in mastering Balboa and Bal-swing - a journey in continuous learning.
Currently, you can find them social dancing and competing at various events across Europe and the United States. They are also teaching within UK/Europe and facilitate pilot sessions in the United Kingdom.
Their “down-to-earth” and positive attitude helps to make the classes they teach not only informative but also enjoyable.
Their aspirations to be ambassadors of balboa stems from a continuous learning and sharing of their passion and knowledge of the dance to enthusiasts alike.
Gontran and Susana are balboa teachers from Studio Hop in Toulouse (France)
They have taught in diferent places all over the word like Spain, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, England
Juggler, magician, and music-lover, Gontran has always had a pronounced artistic side, but it was when he discovered the world of swing and it’s fabulous energy in 2003 in Toulouse, France, that he found his true passion. He has since dedicated himself to the ensemble of its dance styles.
Gontran is an accomplished individual and partner dancer, and has string of competition credits in Lindy Hop, Balboa and Blues which reach back to 2004.
He continues his training and reflections with world-renowned dancers and teachers and his enduring desire and appreciation for continual evolution are evidenced in his oft-uttered phrase, “It's enormous!”
Musical expression being one of his leitmotifs, he tries to adapt his dance and his lead to interpret the music for which he feels an extreme devotion. To this end, be it as a dancer, competitor, or teacher, he emphasizes the connection, the lead and follow, and the exchange between partners, the ultimate goal being that these serve musicality, creativity and bring happiness on the dancefloor and in the minds
Susana cannot be overlooked. When Susana is not sleeping, she is dancing!
Dance is part of her life. First an Argentinian tango dancer since 2003, she started to dance Balboa in 2006.
She has also been noticed on the dance floors by being placed high in the competitions.
Her style influenced by Argentinian tango will provide you with unique footwork.
Susana is passionate, a dance and sharing enthusiast.
Since her early age she learns to love all kind of music and develop open-mindedness.
She goes all over the world in a way to grow up and follow the evolution and universe of swing.
Naturally she started teaching the dances that talk so much to her body and heart.
Gloria Garcia. Successfully trying to grow a Balboa scene in Barcelona area since 2005, Gloria has been dancing Balboa since 1998. Having developed her own training technique, she has been teaching internationally since 2010. Coming from various dancing backgrounds like afro-latin, traditional Spanish dances and solo jazz, she has won balboa International titles like Euro Bal Cup 2011, BOTP Classic Open 2013 and ABW PA 2014. Member and leader of White Chocolates solo jazz troupe, she has also been teaching locally Balboa and solo jazz since 2004. She is also a Dance Movement Therapist and uses various movement analysis techniques in her Balboa teaching methology.
Guiseppe Olla started dancing at the age of 10 and he never stopped. He travelled from the very beginning for Boogie Woogie competitions, later on he discovered Balboa which is now his great passion. He is currently based in Stockholm where he teaches regular classes.
Gio enjoys experimenting with new moves and stretching the borders of the dance, many people remember him for his following skills. Among his signature moves you can find développés, hip's movements and different poses.
Gio still likes to compete, he won the first place title at All Balboa Weekend Amateur Strictly and Jack’n'Jill, Balboa on the Promenade Strictly and Strictly and Jack’n’Jill at Snowball.
In class he is precise and pedagogical; He is more a coach than a teacher. Ask him for personal feedback!
